Hummingbird Time

Southern California is starting to heat up.  With the warmth comes the hummingbirds.  These little territory hogs compete for the two hummingbird feeders that we have at our house.  In case you didn't know, to make hummingbird food for your feeder, dissolve 1/4 cup of granulated sugar in one cup of warm water.  Add a drop of red food coloring and you are good to go.  Keep the extra mixture in the fridge to  keep it fresh.  Also, make sure to rinse your feeder with a little bleach and water to kill any bacteria that might have grown.  Here are a couple of pictures of our feeders and some of the birds.

Nice hummingbirds pictures, Dawn. And just coincidentally, my video "Hummer Sonata" is available at Amazon.com and other fine retailers. With music by Johann Sebastian Bach, it features intimate close-ups of baby hummers in their nest, as they are nurtured and fed by mom, finally taking their first flight. For anyone who has ever marveled at the grace and speed of a hummingbird, this video will bring a smile to your heart.
